I bought this for a long trip we're taking next week, so can't give an adequate review yet. However, just using it around town, it picked up one alert where a police car was parked, but didn't alert me to an ambulance close by. It took a little doing to set up the compass and other settings, but if you follow directions, it's fine. If it prevents us from getting tickets, it will be a winner!

So far so good with this cop-alert. Even my kids enjoy searching for where the "po-po" is on the road when the alert goes off. Oh, the shame! Great product!

Recently purchasing this detector I'm finding it to be one of the upper end (in this price range) Radar/Laser Detectors on the Market. It picks everything out there and more (including road signs which throw you off). However understand that while it picks emergency vehicles with the sirens on (police, ambulance, fire), it only picks up those vehicles which have a transponder that gives off a signal that the cobra picks up. The purpose of this transponder is to enable the emergency vehicle to "connect" to red lights and make them go green for the vehicle, thus less chance for an accident and the vehicle can keep moving without stopping (they're supposed to slow no matter what). Naturally there must be lights in the area that pick up these signals. Example, a four way red/green light. Emergency vehicle is traveling from South to North and giving off signal with lights flashing.....Light picks up on this and as it gets closer it automatically turns the South/North Green while turning the East/West Red. Then when the vehicle passes the lights go back to normal rotation. This is what your detector picks up. NOTE: Not all areas have this system. Larger cities are more likely to but not all of them. You can tell the red/green lights that have this system in that there is a small funnel horn looking device toward the top and side of one of the lights. You will not know if an emergency vehicle has this. While I'm not saying one should speed while having this. We all know how easy it is to go over the speed limit while driving on an open highway with nothing around, but open road. Not intentional but it happens. And the cost of one ticket will pay for this detector, not to mention points on your license.
