Plasma HDTVs not dead yet

Although widescreen plasma HDTVs are on their way out, making room for more efficient and easier to produce LED LCD televisions, there are still some great plasma TVs out there. Plasmas televisions have always been known to reproduce very dark blacks and stunning colors. It came as a blow when Pioneer announced that they would be discontinuing their legendary Kuro line of TVs. Let’s take a look at a few plasma options available today.
Panasonic is the plasma screen leader
After announcing that they would no longer produce their own plasma displays, Pioneer chose Panasonic as their source for their plasma panels. It is no surprise that Pioneer chose Panasonic as their source for plasma screens as Panasonic makes some of the best plasma screens. Their latest plasma television, the Viera TC-P50VT20, is an excellent set that displays both 2D and 3D sources, has deep blacks, and great picture quality. It is also an Internet connected set that allows access to news, weather, and social networks.
Another great plasma choice is the LG Infinia 60PX950. It has a super slim profile and is easily wall mountable. It also plays back 3D content flawlessly. The black levels are not as dark as the Panasonic but are good overall. It also features Internet connectivity, allowing you to access internet based services like movie streaming directly from the TV itself.
Finally, we have the Samsung PN51D450. This is the cheapest television in our list but offers good value. It can be found for about $700. Although it is only 720p capable, it still provides excellent picture quality. It has limited connectivity like only 2 HDMI ports but you can’t really complain as this is one of the only 50 inch plasmas that you can find for less than $700.
Although there are some very good LED backlit LCD televisions on the market right now, there is just something about the picture quality of a good plasma set. I’ll be sad to see widescreen plasma HDTVs fade as better LED and OLED TV sets come out.
