This USB SoundWave 7.1 Pro audio adapter allows you to easily add sound to any notebook or desktop computer. The included S/PDIF optical output provides true 7.1-channel sound. You can even place speakers in your preferred positions without moving the actual speakers via Speaker Shifter. Unwanted static and noises from D/A processing, and virtual 7.1 channel surround sound provides home-theater quality surround sound via headphones or stereo speakers. Easily control your multimedia output by using the integrated volume-up, volume-down, speaker mute and microphone mute buttons

I am using a cheapo Dell for a media center on my TV. I wanted optical out and didn't want to spend the cash for a low profile PCI card. This little guy did the trick perfectly. Optical out to my receiver - perfect. There is a LED on it that made my receiver stack glow - so I put a bit of tape over that. Otherwise, I have no complaints. As with anything, download the latest drivers first and you will be happier.
