Bought this about a year ago and the connections to the laptop and to all the parts are loose. The adapter has a feature that if you change the electronic device connected to the tip, then it can "adapt" to the new power requirements. However, since all the wire connections are loose, it just keeps switching off (to "adapt") -- to fix it, you need to unplug the wall socket and plug it back in. Very disappointed and do not recommend this product.

I have one and it worked great for a few months - loved how the cables could detach from the unit for transit - I always seem to bend cables on power supplies carrying them in bags. Loved the blue light. Then it started to cut out for no reason. And today it just failed - stopped working completely.

I am using the adapter that just arrived today (... ordered elsewhere for personal reasons), and so far, it's working fine. I'll edit/delete the review if it breaks (or perhaps more seriously if it breaks my laptop) in a short time (let's say within 2 years), but I don't see that happening, as it appears to be running cooler than my original laptop power brick. Now, as for the negative reviews, I can imagine where they may have gone wrong. First, on the DC side of the brick, it is possible to plug in the cable in wrong way. There are grooves so you can tell what's the right way to plug in the cable, but the grooves are small so it is possible for you to just jam in it the wrong way. And for the tips, well, for some of the laptops, more than one tip may fit---but only one of them will have the correct voltage for the laptop. I did find it annoying that Targus website didn't just simply state the voltage and let me check that it matches my laptop requirements, instead making me go through list and list of laptops (I have a whitebook, so it's not listed). But I ended up digging up a voltmeter and measuring the voltage with the tips to make sure that I am plugging in the right one. For me, both the tips #3 and #4 fit my laptop, but only #3 had the correct voltage (19V; #4 had something like 16V).
