The unit functioned fine (very good audio quality on my end and on caller end), until the phone's "line 2" stopped working (purchased less than 90 days ago). Once I determined that the problem was with the phone and not the phone line, Polycom's support response (via website) was relatively quick, and they acknowledged the problem and agreed to replace the defective unit (still under warranty). BE AWARE: Polycom will replace / repair units under warranty for no cost, but you have to send the defective product to them at your expense, then wait up to 30 days to receive the replacement. They offer an alternative: pay $106 up front, they'll send a refurbished (not new) unit via expedited delivery and include a pre-paid shipping label to use to ship the defective unit back to them. Since I can't do without my phone (hard to run a business wihtout one ...) the so-called "advanced exchange" is what I'm stuck with. I'm quite disappointed to have to pay 50% of the original purchase price to replace a new product - that would be a "negative discount".

I first purchased this phone in 2000 for my home office. After five years of daily use, I boxed it away during a renovation that took far too long. Recently, I dusted off this Polycom, plugged it into a IP-based line and it works, sounds and looks as good as ever. The speakerphone is still unmatched to products within the price range and the features, while dated, are fine for me. The voice clarity on the handset is exceptional. While I rely on an online application (Google Voice) for voice mail and call logs to maintain mobility, it's a nice feeling to have great sound quality while back at home. Most professionals -- especially consultants and other with home-based offices -- will greatly appreciate this phone. Typically, I would buy the newest and greatest thing available, but I'm fairly confident that I have it on my desk right now even if it is pushing a decade old.

I had the phone for a week now. Here are the main observations I had so far: Good: Setup is easy and straight forward Speaker quality is very good Mic quality is good, support of duplex is great for long conf calls. The rear mic, really helps the other side hear better. I am using it in a small home office room, and the phone is placed on my work table next to the wall. All basic work functions are available and easy to use on the phone (mute, hold, conf, redial) The bad: The phone has zero bells and whisles. LCD display is dim, small and not up to date The touch buttons are not led speed dial is not easy to remember which is which headset functionality is limitted to the 2.5 jack hand set has a back noise due to the amplifier. It also sounds kind of remote when using as a regular phone. On top of it,the hand set is a little on the heavy and not comfortable side. Using a Plantronics CS55 wireless headset provides good sound quality, but requiresthe lifter to be added for smooth operations. I am using only a single line, so not sure how it would work with two lines. Bottom line: If you spend hours on conference calls, and don't care for old technology, this is a solid phone. I tried finding a phone that has it all, and just couldn't find one. BTW, I bought mine on ebay as these type of phones can easily work for years, and didn't want to spend full retail price on old technology.
