Overall these are good headphones. I use them when I travel, mostly to cancel airplane noise. If you've never used cancellation headphones, they are great to remove constant background noise, so in a plane that means you can better listen to your music/movie without having to put the volume insanely high. Note that noise cancellation does not cancel voice chatter, so don't even try to use this in an office -- in this case you want over-the-ear cups for good isolation. They fold easily but folding the whole thing in the accompanying case takes a bit of practice and patience at first. It's a tight squeeze but I now manage to store my iPod nano in the case too. It then stores easily and it is pretty light to carry around. Otherwise they are ok comfort-wise, just a tiny bit tighter on the ear than my older Sony noise canceling headphones. Sound-wise, the bass is a bit too much boosted even for my taste; a bit of equalization on the iPod fixes that easily.

I was on the market for a good set of headphones and after reading the reviews here I decided to give these a try. The good news about them is the noise cancelation works better than I expected. The bad news is that they squeezed my head so tightly that I couldn't wear them for more than forty minutes before the pain became to intense that I had to take them off. I realize these headphones are supposed to be tight, but there is no way I could wear them for any extended period of time. Adjusting them made no difference. I've seen the reviews from others here saying that they are comfortable so maybe I have a big head or something. Anyway, the Sony's had go back and I got a set of Bose (without noise canceling) that was more expensive but worth it because they fit perfectly and sound amazing. As far as sound, the Sony's sound ok (only with NC turned on), but not amazing like the ones I have now. So if you have a small head and are not overly picky about sound quality like I am, then these might work for you. Otherwise you might want to look elsewhere.

I bought these headphones after a run of buying rather inexpensive ones (incidentally also made by Sony) that lasted less than a month or two. I bought them because I wanted more comfortable headphones to use while doing work, and for the noise canceling capability. I figured that I would spend a little bit more in order to get better quality. I was very, very wrong in selecting these. They are not at all comfortable and my ears would hurt after about an hour of wearing them. Adjusting the part that goes over my head did nothing to help. They also always felt very rickety, as if they would come apart if a butterfly landed on them. Well, it didn't even take a butterfly, it turns out. 7 months after I bought them, I went to pick them up and put them on and one of the earpieces just fell off! A piece of cheap plastic that appeared to be held on with some kind of superglue fell off of the headpiece and the screw holding them together came out. The screw on the back of the earphone cannot be screwed back into the headpiece due to the construction of the unit - it just wiggles around and the head is inaccessible by screwdriver. I am extremely displeased with having spent what I did on these only to have them fall apart through no fault of my own. The noise canceling was absolutely excellent but without it turned on the sound quality was terrible.
