I've had this unit for several years and use this as a homemade "second zone" receiver to power my patio speakers. The only input is from the "tape out" RCA jacks from a pioneer that powers an indoor theater set-up. It can certainly do more, but it was cheap alternative for simple power amplification. I have a large backyard, and I never have this higher than half-volume with plenty of clean power. The radio tuner is decent too.

This is a basic model which served me well for a couples years of very moderate use and no abuse. Today, when I turned it on, however, it automatically goes to standby (which is essentially "off") after a few seconds. I can hear a click after a few seconds just as it goes to standby. I looked inside and there are no short circuits and the problem persists even when all other components are disconnected (indicating they are not the problem). I googled the problem and found that it is commonly reported for the Sherwood 4000 and 5000 series receivers. Into the trash it goes because an hour of my time is all I have to waste on this $100 unit.
