The StarTech PC/VGA to TV converter performs as advertised! The learning curve is not bad and takes someone with an understanding of electronics this is definitely not a device I would advise a NOVICE with no back ground in using moderate to complex connects and settings to purchase. That said I was very happy with the conversion process it very accurately converted PowerPoint files, flash player files and others extremely well.

Converter was functionally dead on arrival. LEDs would turn on when power applied and setup menu would show. But no video would flow through the contraption. Nothing out the RCA jack and nothing out the VGA pass-through jack.

Bought this to play stored/streaming video from my laptop to a TV. I had been doing this very smoothly with a desktop PC and a PCI card that provided S-Video out, but I wanted to get rid of the ugly tower in my family room. I first tried the product with a Dell Dimension laptop. It immediately caused the laptop to shut down (no warning, no blue screen of death, just instantaneous power down), and I could not power up the laptop with the monitor cable plugged in (and the other side connected to the product). After several tries, I proved to myself that having the product connected to my laptop was killing it and preventing booting it. So I switched to another laptop, a Sony Vaio. The Vaio was able to display some video and it looked fine. And once I had the product working with the Vaio, I really liked the adjustments available and the ability to do them via the mini remote controller. However, after about 30 minutes of enjoying video, my Vaio died with a blue screen of death. I restarted the Vaio, oh, I'd say about 10 times, with the same results every time. At this point I gave up and returned the product. It's possible that I just had a faulty product, but any peripheral that can kill its host machine is not one that I want connected to it.
