I purchased this product in December 2007, it worked OK for a couple weeks, then developed problems where it would not turn off nor work properly. Even taking the battery off would not completely "reset" it. Exchanging it for new one was not an option as Amazon no longer carried the unit. I decided to send it to the Thomson Exchange Center for a replacement unit as outlined in the warranty information. I sent in on Dec 27 and to date have heard nothing back from them. I sent a letter on Feb 7 and again not reply so far. There is no phone number listed for warranty help. Very dissapointed in RCA product.

I was very dissappointed in the battery. It plays fine but has a short life. I needed to recharge before a complete DVD was completely shown. Works good on wall adapter but dissappointing if you bought this for portability. The package says 2.5 to 3.0 hours but I only got about 1, if that! Otherwise a nice little set, compact, easy to use and sound was good, you can adjust contrast and light. Wonder if a batter can be purchased that guarantees more time?

I bought this one to replace a Cyberhome 7" portable. Unlike the Cyberhome, which I used like crazy, I've maybe seen a total of 3-4 movies on this thing in a year's time. I'm working from home today & decided to pop in a movie...battery will not charge and unit will NOT work unless plugged into the wall. My warranty runs out the end of the month & Philips offered me "same or comparable" model...I pray I don't have the same problem as some of the other reviewers. Other than that, the unit is great, picture is clear, sound is good. Note: Doesn't work with 6th gen iPod Classic. It'll output audio, but no video.

This is a great player with good features for the price. The iPod docking station is great for playing iPod movies, or just playing music through it, plus it charges the iPod and the remote can be used to control it. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the battery. On a full charge (which takes about 6 hours) I can barely make it through an entire movie on the 2.5 hour battery. Plus the player has to be off to charge, so watching a movie while it is plugged in will not charge it. It would also be nice if it came with some kind of carrying case to protect the the player. Other portable players in the same price range come with cases. TRUST THE DESCRIPTION, THE NEW IPOD CLASSICS WILL NOT PLAY MOVIES IN THE DOCKING STATION!!!!

It stopped working four weeks after I purchased, started saying 'no disc' even though the disc is present, the customer support is not as fast as other customer support, thank god it was under 90 day warranty service but I had to shed 10 bucks for shipping to get repaired from the Mustek warranty support. The picture quality and sound quality are good, that's the reason I am giving 3 stars, but is delicate. Also few discs I was not able to play in this play but was able to play in my other DVD player.

Unit has a good, sharp picture that can be viewed at an angle and the player's controls are easy to use. The headrest mount leaves something to be desired as it would not hold the player in place through a whole movie. Movement of the car as it traveled was enough to cause the mount to suddenly loosen it's grip and drop the player. I tried several different positions to no avail. The kids wound up holding the player on their laps.

I haven't had this device for long, but so far I think I agree with most of the positive reviews here. One thing I have not seen mentioned, however, is that there seems to be no way to have the player adjust the image of anamorphic DVD sources such that the picture fills the screen as much as possible. If you've got a 16:9 TV, then you're familiar with the various "stretch" viewing modes, and how with many sources the image must be "stretched" in the vertical direction in order for it to fill the screen and (more importantly) for the image to be rendered at the right aspect ratio. In other words, if the movie has a shot of a basketball, the basketball should look like a basketball, not a blunt football. With this player, the only means I've found to get the aspect ratio right for anamorphic disks is to tell it to use the 4:3 TV setting. That corrects the aspect ratio problem, but it leaves about half the screen unused - that half-screen is more-or-less what I wanted when I paid extra for this thing! Anamorphic DVDs are not rare, by any means! As I was picking DVDs from my shelf to test the player, I found that the first 5 I picked were anamorphic. It's something I generally don't think about at all, because all my other playback mechanisms are capable of dealing with that format. Apparently, the Philips people decided it wasn't really important for this device. That's really a shame.

We received the dvd player and were happy with quality, picture, and controls. But the car mount is very cheap and broke within the first week.
