there is no clip.. which would be a lot easier for working out. the sound quality is bad. it's nice that there is a radio and it automatically sets the presets, but still, the sound quality is bad and i even used sony walkman earphones. the ipod is Much better. the only good thing about this is that u can just plug it to the computer w/o using wires, it's small, has a radio, and it has a display for such a tiny mp3 player. however, i would not buy this again, i'm thinking about getting the ipod nano or shuffle because i just need to be able to clip it to my shirt or pants when i work out.

I ALMOST got a bigger iPod, but I didn't feel like spending so much on it. I recently got an 8G card for my camera made by the same company and was super cheap but good. There was an advertisement in the package for their other products, including this mp3 player. I decided to look this up, looked great but had no reviews. I had to search the web like crazy to find a review. All I found was positive, but I didn't find much. In any case, this thing is GREAT! The sound is great, it's small, pretty user friendly, and it's way cheap for what it does. I only bought it to play songs (for the most part), so that's all I've tested out. I have it connected to a pretty cheap set of travel speakers right now, and it's still great. I am so incredibly impressed so far! And I do have an iPod shuffle already, but I just use it to run. The sound on this thing is MUCH better than the shuffle. If I could give it more than 5 stars to factor in the value, I would!

I bought this to replace my cheesy MP3 player, old voice recorder, and USB thumb drive and couldn't be more pleased with it. I use it to record notes and trip reports, as a general purpose USB drive to transfer files (2 GB memory!), and to record high quality stereo from audio sources. I like the fact that it's a direct USB connection, so you can transfer files directly from Windows Explorer. The voice recordings are WMA files that Windows programs can use. The user controls, menu, and display are very nice. Check it out at http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_product.asp?id=1292. Download the instruction manual to learn more.

I work by phone with people from all over the world. I needed a more efficient and cost-effective way to record and electronically send those sessions to anyone, anywhere. The WS-331M has been the perfect solution. The recording quality is excellent. It's easy to use -- even for anyone not familiar with or into the latest tech gadgets (like me). The instruction manual is thorough, clearly written, and easy to understand. Even if you can intuitively figure out how to use the WS-331M without reading the manual, it would still be worth your time to read it because you'll pick up many useful shortcuts and tips. Since many other reviewers have gone more into the particulars of files, folders, etc., I'll spare you the repetition and stop here. The best part for me is how easy it is to electronically send a recording. All I need to do is plug the recorder into my PC, download the session file onto my destop, upload it to Senduit-dot-com, and then send that link to the client. No worries about file size or email incompatibilities. It's brilliant.

I bought DS-40 to record the sunday sermons on my church. It's a small church, so I figured a digital voice recorder will be enough and let me tell you that it is enough. Pastor wears the Olympus ME-15 Microphone (purchased separately) around his chest, then delievers the message as usual through another microphone which is connected directly to an amp. After the service I get the recorder from the pastor, then copy the file to my computer, use Switch(ver 1.33) to convert the wma sermon file to mp3, and edit the file using Audacity to trim away any unwanted noise/beginning/end, adjust the volume. After that, my wife records the reading of the passages on the bible and the title of the sermon and I combine the two files and it's ready! Recorded voice quality is very good!

Benefit to me: great productivity booster. Salient features that deliver this benefit: - Excellent microphone sensitivity makes it great for recording conferences and lectures. No more constant replaying, straining to hear what the speaker said. - User-defined repeat playback loops and index ("go to")points speed transcription. - Records about seven hours at high quality. Claims 5X that recording length on lowest quality but I've never tried it. - Tiny drawback, not particularly important: the "record" button is high on the right side of the device. That's just where my thumb would be whether I want to record or not. Result: accidental recording. I'd like to see the double-button record feature used on Olympus microcasette recorders. - This DVR replaced an Olympus microcassette recorder. Storing the analog contents of the recorder on my computer required replay through digitizing software (Audacity). With a DVR, just download. Definitely recommend.

This is an excellent voice recorder, but don't get it if you wish to record live music or your practice sessions with a guitar or piano. I tried it and the resulting sound was just plain awful--just one mushy sound. I returned it to Amazon and bought the LS-10 which just arrived today. I've already tried it out and it's a hundred times better than the DS-40 for the purpose of recording live music.
