This little recorder is fantastic. The quality of its recordings exceed that of larger console recorders in sampling rate. The condenser microphones are surprisingly good considering the relatively low cost. It's billed correctly as linear. I record drums and the built-in mics pickup the very low bass drum, all the toms, the snare and the high pitched cymbals equally well. The features are great and there are many choices such as type of reverb and simulated microphone placement. The controls are easy and intuitive and the menu system is the same. There is one programmable function button and a nifty erase button. I wish it had rechargeable batteries so I could start a session and not have the recorder die because of low batteries right in the middle of the session. The built in review speakers are a very splendid and welcomed feature. Be warned, it has no dubbing capability. All-in-all it is a little gem of a PCM recorder.

I'm very pleased with this recorder. One of the reasons for purchasing it was to be able to use SD memory cards. However I found that on occasion it would jump to the format menu and hang. The only way I could clear it was to remove the betteries and of course lose my recording. The manual tells you how to format the recorder. It does not advise or recomend formatting the SD cards. This is an important omission. Formatting the SD card resolved the problem. BE SURE TO FORMAT YOUR SD CARD BEFORE USING IT.

I have used this recorder for over a month, primarily for bird calls and other "ambient nature" sounds, such as water lapping the shore. This recorder functions perfectly and I'm delighted with it. All recording modes perform as advertised. CD's burned and MP3 files sent over the net couldn't be better. Battery life is very good although I've switched to NMH batteries for convenience. The only downside is wind noise. The supplied foam baffles do little and I plan to get one of the "fuzzy" covers and see how that performs. A good value and a good device.
