Nortel Passport 1648T 48-Port Layer 3 Routing Switch The Passport 1648T is a fixed-port, hardware-based Layer 3 Routing Switch that provides resiliency, performance and security to both the wiring closet and network core in a 1U high design. Provides connections for gigabit Ethernet aggregation as well as 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connectivity. Features Support for SMLT and MLT supplies redundant load sharing connections to one or more desktop switches. Resiliency is addressed at multiple layers across the entire network ensuring maximum availability of resources and the lowest downtime. Wire speed routing and QoS mechanisms deliver the performance required for VoIP and multimedia applications. A non-blocking switch fabric and hardware based routing ensure that data won't be dropped when the traffic load increases on the switch. The policing and shaping features (available in Phase 2) permit traffic flows to be controlled based on applications needs. Packet filters and support for SNMPv3 and SSH (available in Phase 2) all supply added protection for the sensitive data including VoIP conversations. Multi-level access and defined access policies help secure the switch against unauthorized management access.
