I have been using this product for a year or two. There is a lot of good here. X-Raid is very nice. However there are some problems with Vista that NetGear seems slow to address. I haven't had any problems with data loss, though I don't use the built in backup utility that seems to be associated with this. My biggest beef with this unit is that it has a proprietary power supply. Netgear goes to great lengths to emphasize that the device works with any number of 3rd party hardware, and even publish a list. I can only assume that the reason they didn't do this with the power supply is greed. They intentionally changed the pin mapping so that you can't use a 3rd party unit. It gets better. They had a problem with a large number of the units (mine included) failing due to a bad power supply. Some of them actually started smoking from what I understand. Mine just failed. NetGear Tech support will mail you a "free" replacement but only if you mail yours in first and then wait for them to ship it out ground. If you use the product as intended - as a mission critical network device - this is obviously not workable. So for my "warrantied" power supply I got charged about $50 for overnight shipping. A follow up complaint to customer service prompted them to refund half of this fee.

I purchased a brand new NAS (ReadyNAS NV+) that had a faulty hard drive straight out of the box. Hey - these things happen and that's ok, but Netgear support has been well below par. Lots of misinformation, passing the buck and finally they send me a replacement hard drive which is the wrong model (inferior drive for a RAID array where all others are the same) AND it is a refurb'ed drive. More than 20 phone calls and have to be more than five hours on hold, I still do not have a working NAS three months after I purchased it. The product and the five year warranty might both be good, but if anything goes wrong, it would be cheaper to throw it away and buy from another vendor. They do not take responsibility for resolution and they don't get back to you when they say they will. I reckon it would take one huge bribe for me to ever buy another netgear product!!!

This product from Netgear is great buy, it is so easy to setup, everything is auto, heaven for those beginners. It does what the Netgear intended it to do. And if you are into servers, this is one of the best product to get.
