I have an early 2009 model Apple Mac Mini ... and v3 of this switch. The Mac will only connect to this switch in 100Mbs speeds, not in gigabit speeds. I have a pc and a NAS device that do connect at gigabit speeds, but not the Mac Mini. Netgear support is terrible ... I spent almost 5 hours, mostly on hold or being transferred around from level one support to level 2 support to RMA clearing, back to level one support etc... Support was terrible, only following a script and wearing you down with hold times. At no point did they attempt to diagnose the Mac, and suggested only to swap out the switch for a v2 model ... which made no sense to downgrade. Finally I decided to just return this switch to Amazon. If you plan to have an Apple Mac Mini in your network - don't choose this switch. I had read reviews that v3 was solving problems of earlier models that did not work with Apple, so I had expected to have no problems. Thoroughly disappointed. Worse, netgear support didn't even acknowledge the problems they had with v1 or v2 of this switch while on the support call. Even suggested downgrading to v2 as the solution! crazy!

Nothing special about this, except that it works as advertised. What more can one ask?

I have several switches like this throughout the house. They work really well and seem to be well made. I also have the 8 port metal switch which is sturdier but will get warmer than this. The switch comes with a power adapter and a couple of stands that clamp on and will allow you to install it vertically. The stand will do their job but don't expect much in terms of stability. The best time to get this switch is when Netgear has a rebate for it and they seem to have rebates all the time. At that time it can be found for as low as $20-30. Highly recommended product for the money.
