This phone system is just fine except for the answering machine, it doesn't have a beep or any sound to alert you there is a message. The light on top of the phone blinks but it is so small you don't pay much attention to it. The answering part has very good sound quality as do the phones themselves. Overall quality is very good, large buttons are great, selections of ring tones are very good.

This is, overall, a good replacement for my previous cordless phone system. However, it has two design problems that I don't like. The worst one is the prongs on the power bricks...they don't "hold on" to the wall socket at all. They're so loose that the weight of the brick can pull it out of the wall socket. Also, the menu system is awkward for getting to a couple of frequent items, like deleting your missed calls. And a very minor complaint...all three ring tones for this phone are lame. How about just a plain "telephone ring?" Superb audio quality, though, and long battery life, and no interference with my wireless home network.

I bought this to replace an aging AT&T cordless in our kitchen with poor reception and mushy button-feel. We had already been using a Panasonic KX-TG5632M 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Digital Cordless Answering System with Dual Handsets, which has provided us with trouble-free service from day one (now into its third year of life in our house), so Panasonic had already proven itself as a reliable phone maker. I really only needed 1 extra handset, but saw this on sale, so I bought the entire set. Pros: ----- - 4 handsets is plenty. You can add 2 more for a total of 6, which should be enough for anyone. - Long range and reliable. I can walk downstairs into the basement and clarity is still perfect. - Needs only base station to be plugged into phone jack. Satellite handsets only need to be powered by the small power block (see my photos). - Base unit and satellite chargers are compact and take up very little space. Phone is light (5 ounces). - Easy to use menu and big number buttons, much like a cellphone. So similar in fact, that my dad has taken to mistakenly expecting the phone to display the caller's number like a cellphone (we don't have Caller ID). - Pushing any direction on the directional pad brings up a menu. Contrast with my KX-TG5632, which requires me to push a particular (small) button on the top right row. - Intercom feature where you can call another handset. Handy for talking to family members in other parts of the house (say, the garage or backyard). - Each handset has its own phonebook (which can be copied in part or in whole with other handsets), so each member of your family can have his/her own phone list. - LCD shows date and time, a very handy feature. Phone can also be set as an alarm clock (ring once, or daily). - 16 minute message record time, which sounds small, but in my experience, most people leave messages under 30 seconds, unless they are windbags. - 15 fun ring tones, which includes some melodies - handy phone locator button which causes other handsets to ring so you can find them - Everything needed is included in the box, with nothing more to buy (except maybe headphones). Wall mount, 4 belt clips, phone cord included. I don't ever need the belt clip, but it's there for those who do. - Speaker phone feature is loud. - Environmentally more responsible packaging with no styrofoam. Only some plastic bags. Batteries do not contain cadmium, mercury or lead. - Unlike a lot of phones, uses standard AAA Ni-MH batteries, not specially shaped ones, so you can easily replace them yourself when they don't charge anymore. This prolongs the service life of this unit indefinitely, making it very cost effective to own. Dead, sealed-in, and not easily replaceable batteries are responsible for me having to replace a lot of previous cordless phones. Cons: ----- - Phonebook can only hold a pitiful total of 50 entries - No number of messages shown on base unit. It just lights up. - Slightly homely design. More attractive from the back than the front. Handsets are taller than I expected. - 16 minutes may not be enough for you if you are a message hoarder. - Headset jack is a mini-plug, so your regular headphones you use for your mp3 player won't fit. - Cannot copy the last number dialed to the phonebook. It shows up in redial, but cannot be added. - I don't like the orange LCD. Prefer green or blue. All in all, an excellent phone that should last you a lifetime with little or no maintenance required. I am happy with this purchase.
