This works intermittently. You have to have a clear line of sight between the outside and inside device. If you get anything metal in between it seems to stop working. Even when it does work, the alarm is so quiet you can't hear it. It says you can connect a doorbell to it, but Radio Shack couldn't figure out how to do so and no one answers their tech support line at Chamberlain. Overall, I wish I hadn't. I think I have had it too long to return now, playing with it trying to get it to work. THUMBS DOWN!

I recently purchased the Chamberlain system for($56.00) to replace a 3 year old Instant Alert System for which I paid($ 9.99); to extend the range, increase the sensitivity and volume of the alert. What I received after setting it up according to the manufacturer was less than stellar performance. (1) I had to move the transmitter 50 feet closer to the house. (2) fiddle with the external(wire Antennas) to optimize the reception, (3) strain to hear the alert in the house and (4) ultimatly it proved to be less sensitive than the much cheaper system. My opinion is that you don't often get what you pay for!

Product is nicely designed, especially for outdoor use. What I don't like is that you cannot add indoor receivers to the same outdoor sensor. The alarm buzzer is not loud enough so if you are watching television it must be in the same room or you don't hear it. Also the alarm lamp lights only briefly, which is virtually useless.
