hp Officejet 6310xi. This is our third hp printer. Our first, a 550c was still working for the person we gave it to a year ago. We purchased the 6310 because it was an all in one, and took up less space than a printer and scanner. Should have kept the scanner. This will copy and print from the scan stage, but will not scan and print from the scan stage. When it was scanning properly, made wonderful copies of photos. What to buy next??

This is, in theory, a great printer. Yes, the software load is ridiculously long, large and overburdened with pointless garbage (same with all other printers these days). Yes, color quality is nothing super, but more than adequate. Speed could certainly be faster, and many other things would be nice. But for basic non-professional color and B&W printing, especially for home use with multiple systems, it's a good printer. The control panel is easy to use, and once the software is on your PCs, you can select (from the printer) which PC to scan to, and what to do with the results. Network setup just works, and TCP/IP connectivity is good. Print carts aren't horribly expensive and seem to last long enough. And now the bad: just over a year in, the scanner is producing a solid black stripe about 0.75 inches wide down the length of any scans. This has rendered my all-in-one unit completely worthless to me, since I now have to buy an entirely new AIO to replace just the broken scanner. HP has not made a great product since the LaserJet II or III, and they continue that legacy of crap hardware here. Sadly, all AIO printer/fax/copy machines (same with TV/DVD Toaster/Microwave, etc) that are priced at an affordable rate will also have these kinds of problems; that's the peril of combining three or four products in one box: you get a Frankenstein beast that does each job "sorta well" and nothing great. Nonetheless, HP has a personal track record with me of making absolute junk, so I'm done giving them money. Time to throw my hard-earned bucks away on another brand of junk. Maybe Brother, or Canon.

I have had HPs forever but this one is not good. It says it works with MACS but it won't do 2 sided printing nor will it FAX. Yes I have tried everything. I can't find any record of my purchase tho it was only a few months ago and I got it here so I guess I am screwed. I don't know if I would get another HP after this for my MAC - too bad.
