For the past two years, the Onkyo 8222 receiver has served me well -- powering a pair of BIC bookshelf speakers with room to spare from a CD changer, DVD player, and gaming platform. No fancy bells and whistles from this unit, which appeals to the simple logic of "less complexity = less likely to break." Just good, clean sound from a 2-channel receiver with only the essentials. A small indicator light on the volume knob would have been a nice feature, but that's a nit-picking flaw. What continues to amaze me is the stable price point -- when purchased in 2006, the one-fifty-ish price remains unchanged in 2008. Quite the bargain! An excellent buy overall.

I purchased this receiver for use in my woodshop, which is in a basement. It is able to tune into radio stations with fairly weak signals as well as clearly driving a CD player, tape deck, and iPod. Programming the radio presets is quick and easy. The remote works for approximately 10 feet. Additionally, the rear of the unit is clearly marked so "set-up" was simple. Thank you Onkyo.

This amp allows you to get a taste of what higher quality audio is like without gimmicks, and with a budget the average person can afford. If you don't need a 5.1 system, this stereo is the one for you. The main selling point for me, being a fan of classic vinyl and owning a vintage turntable, was the fact that it had a proper phono input, something that is pretty hard to find these days, even on higher end systems. 50 watts might not seem like much on the surface, but this system packs a surprising punch; at least enough to power my 10" loudspeakers. The biggest downside is that the sound is a bit shrill, but enough fiddling with the bass and treble settings will allow you to find a happy medium.

OK, you have a game room, bedroom or other location where you want the benefits of a good receiver but don't want to bust the bank. This is it. The 506 hits the nail on the head. The only thing I might add, is audio pass through for the HDMI. Not a problem with digital audio outs but it would be nice to take advantage of that HDMI capability. I have it on my 705 and like it. I have 5 Onkyo receivers in my home and can tell you, I believe in Onkyo. 1 is a stereo source and the other 4 support surround sound systems at various locations. With the exception of one unit that has issues with a "hot" signal from my FIOS connection, they are flawless, easy to set up and offer good value!

Just hooked it up and apparently this piece will not play audio through HDMI. It has pass-through and can only be played through the TV. Whats the point? I'm sure the rest of it is satisfactory but I could have kept my old non-HDMI.

I have used my TX-SR875 for about seven months and have been very happy with the performance. I was concerned about the heat and have been using an external fan to create some additional cooling. However, the front panel LED display has failed completely with no warning. Web searches have revealed that this is a common problem. I am fortunate enough to have an authorized service center within a reasonable drive and it is covered under warranty. However, if you are not so lucky, you might want to consider the cost and inconvenience of shipping the unit for repair.

The price and feature set makes this an excellent choice. Yes, it runs hot but not near as hot as others have experienced. I have it in a cabinet with an open front and back but no more than an 1.5 inches of clearance on the sides and top.

Installation went smooth and once up and running it has worked great. I have my Wii, PS3, IPOD, and Time Warner cable box connected. Receiver does run hot but if you leave space above it will be fine. Overall a great receiver for the price.
