I have had this product less than 1 month. I will exchanging it on Monday. It has already gone out. It was used less than 5 times.

I purchased two of these GPS units for Christmas when we first moved to Georgia from California and they proved invaluable since we couldn't find anything. But, now, after less than 18 months, one of them only is "searching for signals" and never gets us anywhere. My husband went on the Garmin's website and replaced the batteries and reset the unit and it worked one time after that. Today we had to use my cell phone to get us to a birthday party in Atlanta and home again. Over a 1 1/2 drive that should have been much easier on the driver - me. We had to use my cell phone to get us back from Chattanooga a couple of weeks ago. Why does my cell gets a satelite, but not my GPS? I feel like this was a lot of money to have to replace one of the units already. It certainly isn't going to be with another Garmin. I asked my daughter-in-law how her's was working and she said "okay" but does lose the signal frequently but comes back. It's like ours went out for lunch and got lost - and now we are getting lost too! I'd check around before settling on this unit. The extra money is probably worth it. This one won't route you around traffic problems, either - when it even works! I paid $280 each for mine.

You will hear it a million times (or as many times as there are people who have GPS's) once you have one - especially if you travel often to unknown places (midwives, salesmen, weddings, vacation spots, etc), we don't want to travel without our GPS's! I have only used one - the Garmin - so I can't compare; but my daughter has a TomTom, and says she likes mine better than her touch screen GPS. I will tell you that this one being small is not a big help, because it's harder to read than the big ones (I mean while you're driving and need to keep your eyes on the road). It would be nice to have the voice state the name of the street, instead of just having to read it on the unit, but that's not been much of a hindrance. Also very important is the customer service you get with Garmin. Again, I don't know about the other brands, but the Garmin people are really there for you. I even got a free update ($60 value), when I called with a problem with wrong turns. And speaking of wrong turns, if you detect a glitch in Garmin's directions, there's a site you can go to and write a correction which (they say) they take into consideration when writing another update. Altogether, I LOVE (like alot) my GARMIN. I laugh at the commercial where the guy tells his that he loves "her"....!

This is email I received after asking about updating MapTraxx SD card. Sounds like present GPS352 units are out-of-date and will never up-to-date. ----------- Uniden America Corp. has a development team focused on bringing new, innovative GPS products to the market. Recently we began developing software internally and plan to provide our own map updates for future GPS products. The GPS product you have does not have any map updates available and there are no scheduled updates for the future on that particular model. Uniden GPS units with updated maps are targeted to be available to consumers in 2009. --------------------

This is the 4th Uniden GPS-352 that I have purchased - and it was purchased for a friend of mine who had seen the operation of one of the others which I own. I like the product, compared to others on the market, due to it's increased capability to Zoom in and out with the switch buttons on the face - as opposed to requiring a touch of the screen (which it also has) which can be difficult when the vehicle is in motion. Improvements could be made in the mounting of the unit, the mounting arm is rather bulky and window mounting is illegal in California.

The item itself is very nice and helpful tool, however for a young person of 75 years, it is more than I need. I liked the product, but not who I purchased it from, as they would not allow me to return it because I found that it was too complicated for me when I opened the packaging.

The new Nuvi 260w has an improved user interface as the one shown in the pictures. - In less than 30 seconds(!) and trust me I've tested it while driving (also when alternating departure locations)it just finds satellite signals in 10-20 seconds. - Recalculation of the route is almost instantaneous and in most cases you'll be corrected on time. - You can save as many favorites as you like. Nuvi will mark them on the map while driving with a customized icon of your choice. - POI database is just great, not perfectly accurate but much better than others (e.g. TomTom's) My only complaint is the TTS, while very useful, the quality of the speaker/sound circuit is pretty low and thats annoying. if you set the volume of Samantha-US English above 70% the sound is squeaky. I set it to UK-English voice since it sounds better, but it switches to Yards instead of feet. To summarize, if you don't need the useless Bluetooth, the MP3 player or questionable traffic capabilities save $100 bucks and buy the 260W. (I was considering the 760)

It's response is great except for those times when it can't find the address Using Map Quest, I can find the location, whereupon leaving the address it couldn't find, it can lead me home from that address. Quirky or normal from other GPS units? Other than that, it's great. I woulod recommend that a bean bag type of holder for the unit be purchased to avoid that round stain on the windshield.

Garmin n??vi 260W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator This is unit is not bad at all, in that it does what it's supposed to do. The screen is wide enough, clear enough and has both 2D and 3D options. It automatically switches between day and night when the light level reaches certain points. The matter at hand is, how well does it do it? Almost everything about it is very good with a few small exceptions. 1. The woman's voice on this unit is broken-up, grating and it actually sounds like it has an attitude. I could get this from my wife without having to pay $200 plus. There's no option to change it either. Mute works quite well however. 2. The detour function is a mess. While needing to take a detour from the highway, it directed me off, drove me in a circle and sent me right back on again. Another time it wanted me to turn left when it would have been illegal to do so. 3. It doesn't have a list of area hotels, gas stations or restaurants for your given location. This would have been a very useful extra that other models have. 4. The mounting unit only attaches to glass so if you have a car where the windshield is not within easy reach you'll need some other option for mounting this unit. They provide a sticky pad which they claim is almost impossible to remove once attached to your dash, however mine fell off within a couple days of being in the sun. As said, it's not bad. It definitely works, as it should. If the price is not much over $200 I would recommend it, however for more than that there are better options.

This device has one of the excellent user interface and design when compared to Garmin and Tom Tom. The bigger screen helps in better viewing and bigger touch screen area than the other small screen products in the market. I like the lights at the sides which blinks when you need to take turn either right or left. Browsing Point of Interest feature in the map is very useful, I did not see this one in other products. The voice guidance is very pleasant and in love with the device... I named it Amanda...and it guides me where ever I go...completely satisfied with this GPS....if you would ask me I would say just go and grab it :)

After testing several GPS units, no one is perfect. But Navigon 5100 is a very practical GPS in affordable price, and it is less mistake and easy to use compared to Garmin Nuvi 750 and 680 in road tests. High recommend! It would be better if there are more POIs(including search options) and alternative hook.

I map for a living so this unit makes sense. I was worried about buying this model when I first read many reviews on this site as well as other sites carrying the Navigon 5100. The price however was too luring at 178$. I am pleased to find that the 5100 works great if you follow the recommendations in the manual. I am a GIS analyst so i do have experience with maps and creating products similar to google earth. I will say that the Navigon is a great model for a intermediate user. I bought my mom a garmin unit because she will not take the time to read the manual nor does she care about extra funtions like optimum route, excluding tolls or 3d view. First issue I read about was battery failing. If you charge your unit for 6 hours (as recommended) when you initially buy your unit you will not have issues with your battery or recharge. As stated in the manual, powering on takes a while. This is kind of a drag and i'd say one of my "cons" for the model. Powering on and off takes 7-10 seconds. Many people complained about the unit rerouting with U-turns. This is something that you can turn off so they obviously didn't read the manual. Rerouting is fast and includes traffic in calculation. Something Garmin does not do. You can also select what kind of vehichle you are in (bicycle, truck, motercycle, car) to add another factor to avg speed and rate calculations. One of the best features for me and others i work with is the log funtion. If you need to log milage for tax purposes this is a great function. Or if you need to track workers to see if they go home during lunch or leave their car idle for hours this is great as well. With rising gas prices our company saved over 10,000$ due to this tracking. The GUI is easy to understand if you go through the manual although not as "smooth" and fast as the Garmin unit. Poi's are outstanding tons of symbology and even better if you get the freshmaps update. It's on sale through amazon for 56$ for 3 years. Totally worth it. One thing you won't find in the garmin unit is an info button that tells info about the POI as well as a phone #. All roads come from Navteq or Tele-atlas which is where Garmin gets their roads from. So complaints about roads being different on a Garmin doesn't make sense. I do like garmin's POI loader. Very nice if you have work data that you need to add to your unit. I haven't played with the navigon's POI's I suspect if you follow format and add through notepad then your only restriction would be the size of your card. I must warn it's probably more advanced and not as user friendly as Garmin's POI loader.
