This GPS gave me a quicker route to work that I would never have figured out myself. It recalculates pretty quick. I actually bought this for my fiance, but used it for myself the first day. :) He drives a lot in Atlanta, GA and it has helped him. The only "downfall" is that is seems like it takes you around the world to get you just across town. That can get a little aggravating, but it does get you there. Sometimes quicker than you expected. All in all, I am happy with it.

This unit is easy to use, easy to read, fits in your pocket, and really saves the day when driving through unfamiliar areas. We took ours on a 4,000 mile cross country vacation and it saved the day many times. No more need for paper maps or even trying to read hard to understand directions. Verbal directions are easily understood as actual street names are identified. This GPS System has a lot of addition features for those who like to track total distance, average speed, miles to destination, etc. We liked it so well, we bought a second one for our daughter.

I like the features on it and the display size is nice. The user interface is very intuitive and really doesn't require instructions. It locks on to satellites very quickly and tracks them extremely well even in adverse conditions. I also like the MP3 player and slot for external SD cards. There are plenty of other features. I've had it for about a month now (took it on vacation) and I'm very happy with it. I also took it on a flight across the country. Top speed was 584 mph and I could track our position from my window seat. I always look out the window and try to figure out where I am. Now I will know! The built in battery lasted about 4 hrs. Half of the time I had the back lighting off. So, why not 5 stars? The FM transmitter is not useable! I've tried it in two cars and in my family room. Even with the Nuvi a foot or so from my indoor (active) antenna on my home stereo, the sound quality was very poor (fuzzy and noisy). Ten feet away it could barely be picked up. I was unable to find a spot in either car that would produce reasonable sound. Bummer!! I actually picked the 660 to get the FM transmitter capability. I read the other reviews that said the transmitter was poor, but I assumed folks were looking for very high quality sound and it was falling short. Nope, I'd call it non-functional and not worth Garmin's trouble (or the extra $$). I ended up buying a cassette adapter for the cars. It sounds great. So far it has been pretty accurate, but not perfect. For example, it mis-locates one of our local fast food restaurants by 0.4 miles when using the built in database. I feel sure it's a database accuracy issue, not a GPS accuracy problem. In all other situations it has been dead on. When you miss a turn it recalculates instantly. I recommend the 660, but don't pick it for the FM transmitter

This is the second one of these I have purchased. I liked mine so well that I ordered this one for a present for a close friend. I have used it on two 2,000 mile trips and it performs quite well. Loaned it to another friend who took it on a trip to the Panhandle of Florida and came home and ordered one for themselves. With the theft problem of these today, I do not mount it on the windshield; should order the mounting on the dash.

Very good GPS with good maps for USA and Canada, MP3, and FM Transmitter (not impressed with FM Transmitter in big sities). Wish to have a 760/770 because faster boot-up, no flip-up antenna, QWERTY keyboard, better suction cup mount, Multi-Point Routing, and a few other feature enhancements .

I own it...it is awesome. I don't use the bluetooth or listen to music with it, so if I had it to do over again, I'd buy the 450. Works great, even in pouring rain, gets great satellite reception, MadMaps tours can be downloaded into it...it is durable, bright, vibration resistant, and works in my car and on my bike. I love it. Garmin rules!

BE AWARE - Garmin advertises the 550 Zumo as providing high quality MP3 music. They also promote their Bluetooth technology. Be aware that the MP3 quality through the Garmin Bluetooth technology is, at best, very, very poor. In addition, XM radio is NOT available through their Bluetooth. What Garmin does not mention is that to achieve better quality or XM radio, you need to use a wired headset (as well as a $200 separate antenna for XM). In addition, Garmin provides very limited and disappointing factory support for cell phones. Be sure to check their web site for capatibility for your particular cell phone or you may be disappointed to find your bluetooth phone is not supported. At close to $1,000 for this unit, it is simply unacceptable for Garmin to put out this product with these limitations and not disclose these limitations up front. As a navigation unit, it works fine. However, there are much less expensive units available to provide equal or better functionality for GPS. Overall, I'm satisfied with other aspects of this unit as it mounts nicely on my motorcycle and seems to be built to withstand the rigors associated with motorcycling. I pair the Zumo with a ChatterBox GRMS X1 and this combination works well except for the MP3 music functionality. Sorry - I would think twice before investing in this unit again as I sincerely believe that I haven't received adequate value for its cost.

This is a nice unit. However it is too large for a standard vehichle. It blocks your view. Also it does NOT have the elevaton as the older smaller version had. Very easy to see the screen. This unit should only be used for motor homes.

    2. Star FullStar FullStar FullStar FullStar Full Posted: Aug 26 2008

I've had my 7200 for over a year now and it has been put through the works. I'm a state trooper in a rural area. I don't go to work without it now. If I forget it I go back home and get it. Besides having a great screen that is easy to read while driving at high speeds, it will also display the 911 address on a side box. All of the extras like xm radio, audio books, mp3 player just make it that much more useful for those long nights when there aren't so many people out and about. One of the more useful features is the "Where To" feature. The 7200 has a touch screen qwerty keyboard that the letters are big enough because of the larger screen to enter streets, cities, addresses safely. No, it is not recommended this be done while driving in heavy traffic, but sometimes it is necessary because of the nature of police work. One of my favorites is the "Go Home" button. That gives me peace of mind when my wife has taken a trip to the "big city" and it does simply what it says. Part of the initial installation is programming what the user considers their home address. Push the "Go Home" button and that's where you are going. No scrolling through check points, favorites, reference points, or entering addresses. The 7200 comes loaded with the maps installed and unlocked. No more unlocking maps and being limited by memory capacity. I recently spent a stint on border security that involved 13 hours a day in a patrol car, patrolling some very remote areas. If I hadn't of had my 7200 to keep me mentally stimulated during those long days it would've been more mind numbing than it was. As it were I learned about the Battle of Okinawa in Bill Sloan's excellent book "The Ultimate Battle" and "Washington's Crossing" by David Hackett Fischer. All of that being said, the Garmin 7200 is not a MAP! It is loaded with an unbelievable amount of information and its routing capability is first class. The Garmin 7200 doesn't, however, know where bad neighborhoods are, it doesn't work if your car's electrical system quits, and it doesn't change flat tires. Electronic equipment is making our lives easier and safer, but it isn't the end all. Anybody who takes to the roads for any trip needs to plan ahead. All of the checking tires, oil, gas gauge, fluid levels still need to be done. There are some bad people in this world and they look for people who put themselves in bad spots and are easily taken advantage of. One of my favorite learning points as a trooper was stopping late at night with what appeared at first glance to be a blonde female looking under the hood of what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. When I stopped and turned on my takedown lights the blonde woman stood and turned into a 6 foot something outlaw motorcycle member with felony warrants. I strayed from the topic, but I meant well. Technology will never take the place of good common sense. I don't think they sell that at Amazon. The only feature the 7200 doesn't have that I wish it did is NEXRAD weather radar. The weather feature of the 7200 uses weather symbols that are similar to those seen on weather forecasts from the 1960's.

I purchased this model NUVI to replace a 2008 Toyota NAVS system. It has found addresses when the Toyota's could not. The instructions are clear, it recalculates fairly quickly. I cannot compare it against more expensive Garmins because they have features I did not need. PRO's. It takes an SD card which can be loaded with MP3's and Pictures. Interestingly it provides good background music in a hotel room when we travel so long as we use a power cord. Because the battery lasts so long we use it as a hand held rather then a mounted unit. (Our choice) CON's. The voices that guide the traveled route are not as clear as they should be, however they do give you several choices of voice to use. All in all I am glad we bought this unit. Rather than fight over who gets to take it for the day my wife bought her own NUVI 680 :)

    2. Star FullStar FullStar FullStar EmptyStar Empty Posted: Aug 24 2008

I have owned by Nuvi 680 for about six months, and it gets me where I want to go. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes me the worst possible route. I have the most recent map updates (which cost way too much). Recently, on a trip from Las Vegas to San Diego, it wanted me to leave the freeway to spend five miles on a frontage road and then return to the freeway. There was no obstruction or traffic that would justify this. In San Diego, it frequently sent me the long way around. In one case, it wanted me to turn left when I could clearly see my destination on the right. On more than one occasion, I was directed to leave the freeway, when there was an exit closer to my destination (even though I had programmed it for fastest route.) I am also disappointed in the points of interest. We recently asked for a list of nearby restaurants. We found one about a mile away and found out that there was a well-know restaurant within walking distance. We have had other experiences where major restaurants are not listed. I previously owned Magellan GPS units, and they gave more helpful directions and showed more useful information on the main screen. My next GPS unit will probably be a Magellan.

I've owned 5 other GPS receivers and this is by far the best one yet. It's operation is very intuitive. Although I don't live in an area covered by the MSN service I activated the free trial period for a long trip to Florida. It saved us a hour delay through Atlanta taking us through city streets and dumping us back on the interstate on the other side of the traffic jam. While in Orlando it warned us of an impending strong thunderstorm and told us what was playing at all the area movie theaters starting with the closest. Just wish it was available where I live. I love to eat, so the POIs, specifically resturants are a very important feature on the GPS. Very often the POIs are way out of date, but so far only one POI no longer existed when we searched it out. My favorite feature is the ability to store audio books. Nothing seems to shorten a long trip more then listening to a good book. I use to listen to them on CD which required changing CDs all the time and often missing instruction from the GPS or part of the book because they were playing at the same time. With the book on the GPS the story pauses and even steps back a second or 2 when the GPS gives instruction, so nothing is missed. On the negative side, people on the receiving end of a phone call through the Blue-tooth connection couldn't understand my mumblings because of the road noises. I think this GPS will last me awhile.

The Zuom 450 is a great product and works easily and intuitivly. However, the model being sold through Amazon has out of date maps which are hard to update. I have not yet been able to get this update working as yet and the download takes a very long time. The other problem is that it send you the most direct route and uses interstate highways when ever possible. This is ok for most travelers but motorcyclists often are looking for the less traveled route and the senic route and the route which is the most fun to ride. This is dificult to do with the Zumo 450.

    2. Star FullStar FullStar FullStar FullStar Full Posted: Aug 29 2008

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a GPS unit for the motorcycle for a couple of years and finally decided to take the plunge. I only wish I'd puchased it sooner. The Zumo is fairly easy to wire to the bike and the mounting system is superb. The day after I mounted it we went on a long weekend trip, so it got a good test. The unit performed flawlessly and was very easy to use. We ran through some heavy rain the first morning and I can attest to the fact that the Zumo is waterproof! The routing is easy and with a few tips from friends I became very adept at setting destinations with multiple waypoints. Several friends have adapted automobile units for the bikes, but with the first raindrop they panic. Not having that worry is worth the extra cost, along with the glove-friendly controls.. I will have to purchase a car mount, but with the price I got on Amazon, I'm still money ahead. Definitely a solid unit.

    3. Star FullStar FullStar FullStar FullStar Empty Posted: Aug 28 2008

This unit is rock solid in the weather and easy to read the screen in all conditions as promised, great for motorcycles. My only complaint is that I was surprised to find the box and unit without the protectective plastic with the back of the unit cardboard scuffed from shipping. Garmin assured me that this unit was still considered "new" but I have to think it was a return of some kind. Either way, Garmin assured me it would be under the full warranty. In the end, I tested it under Washington/Oregon rainstorms while navigating the coast fot four days and it worked flawless as a GPS, although the motel list was quite out of date!

I bought and used this plotter over the summer of 2008 in Maine. While better than nothing the screen is really too small to be useful. If you zoom out to get a range of a few miles, you lose chart detail. The screen keys on the cursor, and it can then be difficult to find the arrow indicating the boat position again. I would have returned it, but Amazon has only a 30 day return policy on unused items. So you buy it and try it, you own it. Unless you have a very small craft, buy a plotter with a larger screen.
