I had my Edge 305 for less than a year before it started having problems. The unit just simply powers itself off during high speed descents and rough road patches. I thought this might be due to excessive vibration...so I tried to come up with some different mounts to remedy the problem. The next spring the power issue became overwhelming and I contacted service for repair. To their credit, even though I was about 3 months past warranty, they agreed to cover the repair. I FedEx'd my unit and was told there would be a 10-day turnaround. After 3 weeks I called to find out the status of my RMA...at which point I found out Garmin had LOST my unit. They sent me a refurbished unit. The refurbished unit arrived on a monday. It worked that first day. On Tuesday, the GPS would not acquire any satellites and was worthless. I called Garmin the very next morning and they have agreed to send me a new "in the box" unit. However there will be another 10 day lead time.

I've not had a single problem with the unit for the 6 weeks of use. Works as advertised and for me provides good information on my overall performance. My riding is for both commuting to work and fitness. I have 2 bikes and bought a second wireless speed/cadence sensor. My only wish is that the GPS would be able to automatically detect the sensor in use either through the bike profile or the sensor. Unless I am missing a feature I have to do a search for the sensor when I change bikes. No big deal. The display is HIGHLY programmable! You can choose what you want to see from HR to time of day. You can choose the number of items displayed on the 2 main pages and that is an awesome capability. The only other enhancement would be that it remembers the last bike ridden. I commute on my #2 bike but when I restart the GPS it defaults to #1 so I have to remember to pick #2. Again, no big deal and easily done.

The Garmin 305 is great for training. It helps you keep statistics on your, speed, distance, elevation, heart rate and when used with the optional cadence sensor (Cadence) for cycling. This helps to provide an accurate measure of your training efficiency & progress.
