THE BEST ALTERNATIVE TO LIQUID COOLING.
WOULD BUY THIS AGAIN IF NEEDED.
Pros: VERY LARGE SURFACE AREA.PURE COPPER.KEPT MY PENTIUM D 3.2 GHZ PROCESSOR WHICH WAS OVERCLOCKED TO 3.48 GHZ AT 27 DEGREES CELCIUS AT IDLE AND AT 32 DEGREES CELCIUS AT FULL LOAD.I DONT THINK I NEED TO SAY ANY MORE.SO DEFINITELY THIS THING GETS THE CLOSEST TO LIQUID COOLING.I HAVE BUILD MANY SYSTEMS AND TRIED MANY HEATSINKS.THIS IS THE BEST SO FAR EVEN AMONGST THE ZALMAN HEAT SINKS.THE ASSEMBLY IS EASY AND THE HEAT SINK STAYS IN PLACE.DONT WORRY THE WEIGHT OF THIS CPU IS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED ON THE MOUNTING SOCKET AND THE MOTHERBOARD SO YOU WONT DAMAGE YOUR CPU.nTHIS THING ALSO COOLS YOUR NORTHBRIDGE CHIPSET AND YOUR RAM BECAUSE IT STANDS RIGHT ABOVE THEM TOO (THEY HAVE DONE SOME THIRD PARTY TESTS TO PROVE THIS)
Cons: ITS VERY LARGE.YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD THE MANUAL (PDF FILE) FROM ZALMAN'S WEB SITE TO SEE THE DIMENSION REQUIREMENTS.

Does what it is supposed to do
I bought this fan because my computer (AMD 64 940) was running very hot and the previous CPU fan was very loud with an irritating hum and wasn't keeping the unit cool at all. I also have two case fans running. To keep the computer running without a heat warning, I always had to keep the door to the cabinet open and could feel the heat pouring out of the cabinet, and on cold winter days, the office was always nice and warm because of this extra heat source.nnFirst, after installing this fan, my computer is running much, much cooler even though I keep the tower enclosed in a ventilated piece of furniture. iI can't tell you how many degrees cooler, but be assured that the temperature difference is significant.nnBefore buying this product I read reviews on other sites that described the installation as easy; however, I would not necessarily agree. (I have built computers in the past and am competent at and confident with uninstalling and installing components.) As it was retrofit into an existing machine, I had to remove all of the cards, the motherboard, and the two hard drives so that I could install the backer plate behind the motherboard. That almost made me give up on this and return it. Once the backer plate was on, the rest of the installation went smoothly. The fan is HUGE and in a small case, it dominates the space. I had to use cable ties to keep the wires away from the faen blades as there is no wire grid to protect the fan blades.nnAlthough this is one of the more expensive CPU fans on the market, it does what it advertises. It keeps the machine running much cooler, and that is why I bought it. Plus the fan itself is very quiet -- a huge improvement from the constant high pitched hum of its predecessor.
Pros: Keeps everything significantly cooler
Cons: Difficult to install
