I love this scanner, it gives me great results and will save me a lot of money in development costs. The only thing I wish they did better was not make the film holders so flimsy. I get worried that they will snap if I'm not extra careful.

I had to download drivers to get this scanner to work in Ubuntu. The process took a while and I suspect it may have been made more difficult by a poor connecting USB plug in the scanner. Getting the plug just right and not moving it seems to help. The Sane software that comes with Ubuntu works very nicely for scanning photos once the scanner is working. It takes about 5 seconds to scan a 4x6 photo at 400 dpi. I haven't figured out how to use the film scanning feature using Ubuntu. (There is a light in the cover that shines through the film) I tried the scanner with Win 2000. That allowed me to scan films and use other features that come with the bundled software the is included with the scanner but I found the software to be clunky and the scans were much slower. This would be a pretty nice scanner if they would just make an easy path to make it work with Ubuntu. It's fast enough to make it practical to copy lots of old pictures from before the digital cameras age.

This is an amazing scanner for the money. I've been scanning a number of old black and white photos and the results were incredible. I was really surprised at how good these pictures turned out. I'm using a Macbook 2.4 GHz with 4 gigs of ram and running Mac OS 10.5.7. I thought I would have to do some editing of this pictures but was very happily surprised. I'm starting with fairly good pictures, but some how they look better after they'd been scanned. Setup was easy and documents turned out very good as well. This scanned will meet most peoples home needs
