EDGEPORT/1 USB to 1 Port EIA-232 Serial

The Edgeport connects to a PC, thin client, or server via the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port, providing instant COM port expansion for peripheral device connectivity. Unmatched operating system support and reliable performance make the Edgeport perfect for applications such as point-of-sale, kiosk connectivity, and mobile computing. Edgeport USB-to-Serial Converters offer plug-and-play COM port expansion for mission-critical applications requiring reliable, high-performance I/O connectivity. The Edgeport is an external, user-installable solution, so implementation does not require removing the PC s chassis, reconfiguring or powering down the system. Various models are available for flexible I/O expansion: One-, Two-, four-, eight-, and sixteen-ports, multi-interface, and EIA-232, -422, and -485 serial interface specifications. Full hardware and software flow control, automatic port reacquisition, speeds up to 230Kbps per port, tri-state LED port status, and broad OS support (including Windows NT 4.0, NT Embedded, CE, XP and XP Embedded and more) are some of the features that make the Edgeport a perfect solution for enterprise applications.

I tried 2 usb-serial adapters before this one.. A Key Span and a TrendNet. Both of them did not work with the type of application I have... which is a continuous data stream of weather information from a system called EMWIN. I won't go into details on how the others did not work but suffice it to say that this device is working like a charm. It is more expensive but apparently the Chipset that is used in this device is superior to all others.. and worth the price to me.
