HD over CAT5 works
I keep all my media equipment, other than the monitor and speakers, in the basement to avoid the "electronics shop" look in the family room. I used Cat5 cable to provide signal from a satellite receiver via an s-video connection. When I migrated to HD, I expected to merely change connectors to component jacks and enjoy the picture. Instead, I found noise lines and ghosting destroying enjoyment of the HD image. After some research, I found these HD-over-Cat5 devices on the Dell web site. They are an excellent value and solved the problem. Installation took less than 15 minutes.
Pros: Very simple installation, no power source needed, internal connectors are a good tight fit, small profile makes concealing the device very easy, does exactly what it claims, substantial noise reduction and picture improvement. Dell processed the order quickly and the parts arrived shortly thereafter.
Cons: None. It works, period.
