My mother had a severe hearing impairment, so I contacted several groups for the hearing impaired. They recommended this phone. I purchased a phone for my mother and it was one of the things which truly enhanced the quality of her life. I have just purchased and installed another for my sister-in-law who has a severe hearing impairment. As with my mother, she has much greater comprehension when on the phone. Having easy to use volume and tone controls is very helpful. Changing the tone to match the hearing loss is as important as the degree of amplification. I consider it the best feature of the phone. The ringer can also be set to different levels. The loud setting can be heard by anyone with an impairment. There is also a blinking light when there is ringing. There are only two drawbacks to this phone. First, although the phone can be programmed for one button calls, but the stations are quite small. If a person is visually impaired the stations could be very hard to read without some sort of magnification. Fewer stations could probably be better in that the print identifying the station could be larger. Second, the backup batteries used for sound amplification if power is lost, are difficult to put in. It is good that they are unlikely to be utilized since they may be are hard to replace. I don't consider the drawbacks of the phone serious, but for elderly people with limited physical skills, someone else will have to help set up the phone.

My parents have trouble hearing a normal telephone. This phone solved that problem. It has a very loud ringer, large keypad, tone control, a very easy to use 10 number speed dial, and a boosted volume control. Some of the other phones I looked at the volume would return to a normal setting after each call was completed, this phone can be set to keep the volume at the desired level! This phone also has the option of adding a flashing light and or a vibrating pad to alert you to an incoming call. It is great being able to have a normal phone conversation with my parents again!

I purchased this as a gift for my Grandmother (who needs a hearing aid, but refuses to get one! ARGH). My Grandmother says the phone is easy to operate and she seems to like it. She doesn't ask me to repeat myself nearly as much as she used to. I believe this was well worth the money.
