The Catalyst 6000 Family Supervisor Engines - including the Supervisor Engine I and the new Supervisor Engine IA - deliver intelligent multilayer switching and network management. Supervisors also support two Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC)-based Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports for increased port density and cost effectiveness. The new Supervisor Engine IA utilizes next-generation ASIC technology, building upon the original Supervisor Engine I to provide enhanced quality of service (QoS) to enable end-to-end support for mission-critical traffic. This new Supervisor Engine IA delivers the most advanced intelligent switching available in the industry, providing per-port application recognition, admission control, prioritization and policing with multiple hardware queues to minimize network congestion and packet latency. This advanced QoS support is essential for enabling network-wide deployment of mission-critical applications and Enterprise voice services and solutions.
