First off, let me begin by saying I'm a years-in-the-making reluctant fan of iPods and iTunes. I finally succumbed to the pressure and hype surrounding the iPod community this past Christmas when I bought my wife a Touch for Christmas. I was almost instantly sold on the phenomenon that redefined how music is bought and sold. My hesitation to adopt the iPod stems from my appreciation of music in it's purist form. I was a Napster user and quickly began to associate most compressed digital music files with, well, crap. Anyhow, soon after Christmas, I purchased an iPod for myself. Fast forward to my birthday, I got a $100 gift Apple Store gift card. So I go in and see the Portable Sound Dock (sans price tag) sitting on the shelf. Thinking it couldn't possible be THAT much more than the value of my gift I took it to a clerk and checked out. I have an uncanny ability to perceive myself as the least cool person in ANY Apple Store, which greatly affected my decision to go through with my purchase. Set up was very simple and the sound quality is nothing short of amazing. I do not have anything to compare this product to but I can't imagine a richer sound coming from any other system. You will be impressed each time you turn this thing on. Placement is critical to maximizing the sound. I have mine on my kitchen counter underneath my cabinets and it fills it and the surrounding rooms with rich, clear sound. Placement in more open spaces negatively affects the sound in my opinion.
