Replaced the old high speed fan with the Antec TriCool multi speed fan set to the middle speed range. Cuts down the fan noise level with only a small temperature increase to my three hard drives which are located in the front bay of the PC Mid Tower case. Now the constant fan noise is no longer an irritation.

I installed this fan and it works fine. The airflow direction is unmarked and not documented but this did not bother me. The air flows toward the side of the fan where the wires are attached to the fan case--this is the normal expectation of a fan. As another reviewer said, the fan is powered by a 4-pin Molex connector and not from the motherboard. This is required because if you set the three position switch to the lowest setting, the motherboard may not provide enough voltage for the fan to start (or even keep running). Motherboards often reduce the voltage supplied to the fan in order run the fan in quiet mode. The wiring is bit odd as the motherboard connector has only one wire in it but it worked fine for me. The thin fan power wires can be routed so that they do not interfere with the airflow-this is more of a concern for flat ribbon cables and fatter power cables. I did have to use the fan's medium setting as my HP motherboard's bios reported the fan as defective when I ran it on low. It is still quiet enough. This fan has a double ball bearing which I like. The cooler master alternatives for 80mm fans only had sleeve bearings which I will use but in general sleeve bearings do not last as long as ball bearings. I have solved my computer's heat problems with a large cpu heatsink and multiple slow fans. I am happy.

Install this and forget it. Keeps the air circulating all day. Fast and quiet.
