The first and most important part of any audio system for a party is the speakers. When looking for a PA system you must take into account how large the function will be including how many people will be there. Traditional large speakers range from 10 to 15 inches in diameter and are sufficient for a party with anywhere from 20 to 200 guests. If your number of guests at your event is more in the 300-500 range, you may want to consider getting the extremely large 18 inch speakers or another set of normal 12 inch speakers. In terms of type of speaker, stick with the traditional cone speakers as they provide the best quality of sound.

Inputs and Outputs

When deciding on speakers it is also important to consider what the source of your music will be. Will you just be plugging in your iPod or Laptop? What about a microphone? Do you want the extra capability of being able to plug in a guitar or other music instruments? Different types of music player work best with specific audio jacks and inputs. Make sure you know what you will be using to play your music before you invest in an expensive audio system.

Bass and Subwoofers

Most high quality speakers come with built in bass and subwoofer capabilities, but if you really want that extra drum and bass sound for your party you may want to consider getting any extra subwoofer. The shape of the subwoofer box has just a big of impact as the size of the sub, so make sure your experiment with the sound before buying one.
